Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000)  > Interesting Japanese Customs > Misc Interesting Customs
Pictures I want to share of interesting Japanese customs that may not be familiar to people from other countries. Well, of course, many of the diretories in this online album are about interesting Japanese customs (like Kevin's School in Japan), but these are things that don't fit in other categories, or that I especially want to highlight.

Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > On the first working day of January, the Mayor calls all the leaders of the community together, including the volunteer firemen, the policemen, congressmen and local ku-chos (the equivalent of neighborhood association presidents) and School Board members, and other distinguished guests (like ME?) as well as all the town employees for a pep talk about safety and progress and ........ Many speeches are made, then we all drink sake in the lobby and go back to work. Nice way to kill a couple of hours.
Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > Don't you love the fish on a stick? Kind of like a trout , forget what it's called (sorry), but it's really good. Cooked over coals, hot and crispy. You don't have to eat the head and guts if you don't want to.
Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > Next to the grilled fish on a stick, we have the grilled mochi balls or "Grilled dango". These are coated in miso paste, looks like. Yummy, if you like mochi (pounded rice).
Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > The orange things on the strings are Kaki (Persimmons). Dried persimmons are yummy. And the red things are peppers (of course). Pretty as a picture!
Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > The three onis (ogres) looking at the dango and fish. Be careful they don't eat your children!

Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > Tuna with onion. Yummy!
Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > Fish eggs or chopped raw tuna with green onions! Yummy!
Jeana Schieffer (Japan) (gna2000) > Kevin eating sushi at the "Tractor Sushi" place in Koriyama. Tractor sushi is when the sushi goes around the restaurant on a conveyor belt and you take off plates of sushi to eat. At the end of your meal, you pay for each plate you consumed. The charge for each dish is determined by the design of the plate. The average plate is about $100 for two or three pieces of sushi. Yummy and fun. At this restaurant, you can also order off a menu and a little minature train delivers your order to your table.
